Find Your Design Style

Find Your DESIGN STYLE!

Do you know what your design style is?

Below we are going to explore a variety of popular styles in design and give you an idea of products that fall into your style category!

Traditional design style often creates a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. You often find the use of dark woods, rich colours, and a mix of patterns. A Traditional design style uses more ornate furniture, creating a lot of visual interest and texture. Pictured above is a room featuring our Applewood series vinyl from Tarkett. The rich warm tones in this room would pair well with our Atica series wall tile. Notice the detailing on the legs of the chairs, and the patterning in the fabric shown above - all features of this timeless style!

Creating a completely different look from the Traditional style listed above is Modern. A Modern look uses clean lines, and sleek minimal finishes. The use of leathers and metals is popular in modern decor. Modern style oftens uses less patterns and more monochromatic colour palettes - creating a look with much less fuss, notice the simplicity of the room shown above? This look features our Matrix series laminate. Though it captures a modern style in this space, a wood look like the Matrix series can often carry over from one style to the next.

The great thing about home decor is you are free to use what you want in a space - styles and colour stories are only given as guidelines. Although you will often find there is something to cover almost everyone's design preference. That is definitely a benefit of the Transitional style. A mix of modern and traditional-some people would agree this style gives you the best of both worlds. You can use clean lines, and sleek modern furniture, and add traditional colour stories, woods, and other features that warm up the look. The above example features our Modern Slate Tarkett vinyl which is a versatile flooring finish to begin with. Once you pair your flooring with some modern cabinetry, traditional ornate dining chairs and some modern lighting - you are on your way to achieve a perfect combination, creating a Transitional dream space!

Another look that combines more than one design style is Eclectic. However the big difference here is an Eclectic living space combines more than just two styles. This look can be more difficult to successfully achieve if you don't take one major thing into consideration - COLOUR: you don't want to go too broad on your colour choices, sticking with a colour story is beneficial in this design style, keeping colour consistent can create harmony throughout your space even with the unexpected! Notice the mixture above; neutral flooring and paint, yellow window coverings, and multi-coloured accessories, but they all balance-out and work together! This look features our Desire series on the floor, which would pair well with a more modern backsplash or feature wall. A mix of modern furniture, and traditional accessories finish off the look!

Shabby Chic design style is one we have seen grow in popularity over the last number of years. A look combining some features from the Traditional style, with more elaborate furniture and detailing, but with a more rustic vibe to it. Shabby Chic combines rustic finishes with a more glamorous outcome by using soft colours, feminine fabrics and detailing. Above we have created a Shabby Chic look with a combination of our Martis and Masia series, on their own this look wouldn't be achieved, but it is with the addition of florals, an ornamented chandelier and an antiqued cabinet that the Shabby Chic look is complete.

The last look we are going to cover is one that is continuing to show up all over the design world. Industrial style is a perfect mix of old and new. When I think of Industrial style the first things that come to mind are exposed brick, converted lofts, and concrete floors. Above we have shown our Tribeca series wall tile - which creates the look of exposed brick for those of us not lucky enough to have the real thing in our home! A solid grey tile like the Lumina series featured above can create a seamless, concrete look. Industrial style features the use of strong lines, as well as non-shiny metal finishes, shown in the bold black metal of the window frame and the cabinetry.
