5 Quick Updates to do before Summer

The warm weather is finally here! And with the sunshine, open windows and switching over from our parkas to a more beach friendly attire, usually comes the realization that our home is in need of an update. By the time these warmer months hit we are interested in spending more time celebrating the weather than ripping the house apart for a 6-week overhaul. Below we have created a list of some “simple updates” that won’t take over your backyard free-time or your wallet.

1. Clean your Grout

Although this job probably doesn’t sound like the most fun to achieve it is definitely a job with a big impact. It may surprise you just how much! Cleaning your washroom or the remainder of your house for that matter is a regular occurrence, but when is the last time you gave extra attention to your grout joints? We carry a line of cleaners from Aquamix that can assist with the project, but be prepared to put in some elbow grease!

2. Colour your Grout

If you are looking for a bigger change than cleaning your grout, or your grout has just seen better days, there is always the option of re-colouring your grout! Changing a white grout to a darker colour, like dark grey or black, can really impact the style of the room, below you can see how a traditional washroom with white grout may take on a more industrial style when the grout colour changes.

3. Install a Vinyl sheet flooring

A great way to make a big impact that is fairly simple to achieve is to install a vinyl sheet flooring. Fiberfloor from Tarkett can be loose-layed over your existing vinyl (please confirm that your existing floor is in the appropriate shape to do so). Our Tarkett sheet vinyls are available in a wide array of patterns and styles, with everything from a pebble mosaic look to a hexagonal cement visual.

4. Install a New Backsplash

Installing a backsplash in your kitchen can really take things to the next level. Not only is it beneficial for maintaining an easy to clean kitchen, but it can also create a whole new look. Because the backsplash isn’t usually much more than 20-30 sf it can be a cost effective project, and also depending on the tile chosen, a good DIY project.

5. Put Up a Feature Wall

Like a backsplash creating a feature wall is a great way to make a big impact with a smaller amount of square footage, making it another cost effective and possible DIY project. Wood-look feature walls are one look that has been trending throughout that past couple of years. This look can be created using a wood-look porcelain, like Parq, Timberwood, or Deco Wood. Another popular feature wall look is ledgestone, like our Rock series by Keradom that is coming soon!
